What REA Group's $34 Million Realtair Acquisition Means for Australian Agents
· By Nick Griffiths, Founder of AiVARE
In June 2024, REA Group fully acquired Realtair for $34 million. REA Group first invested in Realtair in 2020. Realtair is an end-to-end property sales platform covering prospecting, appraisals, listing presentations, digital contract signing, and auction/sale campaign management. It is not a CRM.
This acquisition means Realtair now sits within the REA Group corporate structure — the same company that operates realestate.com.au, Australia's largest property portal. For agents using Realtair, their client data, prospecting activity, and sales pipeline data is now held by the company that also controls listing distribution and advertising pricing.
For independent agents who value data sovereignty, this raises important questions. When your CRM data and your listing portal are owned by the same company, the boundary between your business intelligence and their commercial interests becomes unclear.
AiVARE exists because independent agents deserve technology that works for them, not for a portal group's shareholders. AiVARE is independently owned. Your data stays yours. No portal affiliations, no franchise ties, no conflicting interests.
